Earlier this week, Danielle from Framed Frosting invited us to take part in her Craft With What Ya Got Challenge.

A challenge where I don’t have to buy any new supplies, absolutely.  The theme this week is craft paints.  I have an arsenal of paint, count me in.

I had seen these painted quote canvases all over the web and Pinterest (if you have made one yourself, link to it in the comments) and I was dying to make one of my own.  If you don’t remember our DIY jars, I will remind you that Tim and I are a little feisty.  We like sarcasm, and funny puns, and downright inappropriateness.  So instead of a sweet “I love you to the moon and back” or “you had me at hello” we wound up with this little flirtmeister. a lettered canvas There are lots of tutorials to show you a step by step.  Try here, here, and here.  I will just give you the basics, like what you need to succeed… all you need for a painted canvas and a syllabi for crafting class…. how to paint a lettered canvas …as well as a golden nugget of advice.  Use tweezers to pull the letters off, and be patient because they are gonna rip.  Remember that it doesn’t have to be perfect, those imperfections are called charm.

What have you made with craft paints?
Are you a fan of flirty art?
Are you craving watermelon like I am?

Free Download....

Everyone loves a free download.
Everyone loves a throwback quote.
Can I get an Amen. free download If you’ve followed for a while, you know I have a giant frame wall lurking on my to-do list.  It has only been at the top of the list for about eight months.  It is one of those tasks that I am terrified to start, because in my head it looks amazing but what if on the wall it just looks amazingly awful.

So I make excuses.  We don’t have enough frames.  The bathroom renovation will surely knock the frames off the wall.  We have to cover the return vent first.  I can’t find art I like.  Yada, yada, yada.

The remedy:  I have started making my own frame wall art.  Well, little miss little miss little miss can’t be wrong.  ‘Member that catchy little tune?  How about Matchbox 20, do you remember them?  Me too. matchbox20 quote free download I still love that song.  Sorry if it is stuck in your head now, but feel free to sing it all day.  I know I will be.

You can sing it on our Facebook page and I will get in on the karaoke session with you.  Or holler on Twitter and we can sing in rounds.

All of the downloads are 8 x 10 files.
Just pick your favorite color and put it in the comments and we will send you the file.  Make sure you leave your email, and feel free to grab multiple colors.

Then sing all night long…all night….all night.

If you like the download, you can gain my undying love by pinning it.  I’ll give you my first-born for sharing it on Facebook.

Obviously kidding, sort of, but sharing is caring my friends.

Funny Karma Story:  Yesterday I was talking to a friend about making mix tapes for an upcoming road trip.  I told her I could listen to anything but Nickelback, because Nickelback makes me cringe.  That same friend also gave me instructions last night on how to offer free downloads to readers (so go thank her).  Which allowed me to share the print above, the one that has been on my computer since February.  That same friend has also pointed out, this quote is not a Matchbox 20 song.  It’s a Chad Kroger song….it’s a Nickelback song.  Is this my life?  Apparently, I don’t hate Nickelback as much as I thought since I am memorializing them all over my frame wall and the internet.  Say a prayer for me, I’ve entered full on depression mode.

Oh the shame.

This Friday I have a lot on my mind, like the fact that Mother’s Day is this weekend and I haven’t even started stringing pom-pom garland and crafting gold leaf floral bouquets.  I’m not a very good blogger, or daughter apparently.

The problem with waiting until the last-minute to start planning your holidays is that you can’t order cute lockets online and procrastination flowers are always on the pricey side.  So craft I must and craft I will.

For those of you that are sinking in the same puddle, one solution I have found is Etsy prints.  A lot of times after you buy them, the seller will just send you the file to print.  Of course, every shop is different but this technique has gotten me out of many a bind.

Here are some of my Mama reppin’ favorites. mothers day etsy prints 1.  One of my favorite books growing up.
2.  Could this be anymore perfect.
3.  Totally adorable.
4.  Ain’t it the truth.
5.  My mama’s favorite quote.
6.  Such a great song, perfect for mothers.
7.  My all-time favorite quote.
8.  So cute for the new mom.

Have you already got all your mother’s day shenanigans planned out?  We luckily have Tim’s mothers present all figured out, thanks to a sweet little hint she gave us at Christmas.  Better late than never right, at least that is what I am telling myself.  If only my mom gave hints.

What are you getting your mom?
For the moms, what are you hoping for?
Is it inappropriate to finger paint your present still?

Aye party people…oh wait we are grown ups…hello peers.

This week has been one full of ideas and excitement.  You ever have those moments when ideas are popping into your head faster than you can write them down?  Then you start thinking of fundraising ideas and ways to create a time machine.  No, just me?

I find a constant theme in our lives is not having enough time and money to do everything we want.  Oh you can relate, yea I bet 99.9% of you can relate.  To the other .01% you should move in with us and teach us your ways, I will even call you a “guru” if you like.  Or at least teach a class, or loan out your time machine.

The real problem is that in two weeks all those ideas will be drying up like Jay Leno’s career (not a hater, I want to squeeze that big ol’ chin).  Hence, the writing down.  For now I am ignoring all my list making and soaking in all the inspiration you can find in the blogosphere with our Friday favorites.

I have been really falling hard for water-color paintings lately.  I wish I could make something like this. favorite etsy - lanas art Lana’s Art Gallery is an Etsy shop that is overflowing with color and sweet themes.  That bicycle gets me so ready for Spring to get its butt in gear and warm this town up.  I am beyond ready for lovely blooms and sunshine.  The itchy eyes, not so much. favorite - nation art Ever since I found sweet Beth of Sawdust & Embryos she has impressed the heck outta me with her furniture redesigns.  Now she has really gone and done it, she opened an Etsy shop.  My wallet should run for the hills.  The best part is, even though she is selling these awesome pieces of art she also shows you how to make it yourself.  I think I will skip the sliced fingers and misshapen nation and just put it on my wish list. favorite - scratcher Did you realize Mothers Day is basically right around the corner.  Oh yea, you better get your plan on.  If your mama is anything like my mom all she really wants is a neck rub, which is why this is a perfect gift.  Without all the birthday mambo jambo, you don’t want to confuse her. favorite - seaglass It should come as no surprise that a carousel that tricks you into thinking you are underwater riding on dolphins is basically our dream come true.  Any little girl who has watched Little Mermaid has to be down with this right?  Looks like a trip to Staten Island is in the works…or building a carousel. favorite - tealights While I was cleaning out all of our closets last weekend I came across a huge bag of tealights.  Tim won’t let me throw them out because apparently they are perfect for summer nights outside but I am trying to find a way to pretty the basic-ness up.  We always have tons of cans laying around so I think this needs to happen, immediately.  Maybe I can pump a couple out while I am hosting our very first garage sale tomorrow.

What are your weekend plans?
Have you tried out YHL’s forums yet?
Any garage sale tips for us novices?

I have been staring at a few books that just don’t make sense for quite some time now.  They aren’t Quantum Physics or anything, just mismatched craziness.  The problem is I can’t throw them out.  One is a Barbie chronicle that any girl who grew up with Barbies would cherish like their first born….maybe.  One is a St. Louis landmark book, and one is a Ripley’s believe it or not book with a super fancy 3-d cover.  None of them are very “pretty” per say but I love looking through their pages and learning.

You caught a glimpse of them in this post.  And I was so embarrassed of their mis-matchedness that I actually hid them in this post.

I finally decided to do something about it.
Super fast, super easy project comin atcha… wallpaper your books You want to know how easy this was?
I walked downstairs and dug out some pretty scrapbook paper and the I just made simple bookcovers.  Twenty minutes tops.

Now I can just sit and stare at my pretty books.

Which brings me to my next point…I am so happy that publishers have started making book covers almost art-like.  All of the books I have bought recently are gorgeous enough on their own I will never have to wallpaper books again.  I’m not hating on Barbie and Mr. Ripley, ok maybe I am. the change up Have you bought any pretty books lately?  Ever dressed up your library?
