A whole new nook....

Posted by Christina // 17 Replies

So not too long ago, we decided to put some parallel lines in our life.

Since we spiced up our livingroom I have laid on the couch dreaming of more stripes….stripes everywhere.

I finally convinced T that our wall of stripes needed a little sister.

Enter nooky-foyer stage right. before I know what you’re thinking…a whole lot of boring.

You know what fixes boring.
Stripes.

But did you notice who was busy in that foyer? little overachiever What a little overachiever.  Time to bust out my dust rag.

So after a little striping action thanks to my boyfran-man, we were left with a whole new nook.  A not-so-boring nook.

Enter freshity fresh new nook rising from the rafters or something. after I once again have to apologize for Winter…she is doing nothing for my lighting in photos so say hello to shadows and glares.  Oh and those mismatched knobs that are still stealing the show….well they are on their way out too. details

One of my goals for 2013 is to take a photo-styling course.  I promise I will get better at this friends, I promise.  Pinky.

Are you as down with stripes as I am?  I am now thinking our bedroom needs some vertical action.  Stripes are going to be taking over in these parts.

Do you rent Tim out? How much? 😉 My boyfriend and I have been painting everysinglething in his house to sell it so I know for sure that if I asked him to paint something in the house we actually live in, he’d give me a death stare and wish evil things upon me. All of that to say… I have stripe envy 😉

Hahaha….oh it took some REAL convincing to get those stripes. More like three weekends of pure begging and whining. But it was worth it because now I just stare at it.

Now if I could get him on board with the bedroom verticals!!!!

Wow. That works? Usually that gets me a “hell no.” I have to be all “ooooh you’d look so manly doing that, with your big arm muscles and working out the shoulders.” hahaha 😉

Hahahaha….maybe I’ll try that technique to get him to paint our dining room ceiling 🙂

Wish me luck, he’s been putting that off for months!

Love the Nook area! I’m drooling over the storage bins. I love the colors and how all the pieces fit together so nicely. Still working on my layering skills, yours looks so effortless!

I actually got the idea to paint those cloth bins from Miranda at OneLittleMinuteBlog.com. I love how they play off the rug!!!

And THANK YOU! That means a lot to me because I am still really self-concious about sharing house projects, especially when I have to “stage” things haha!!!

Staging- it’s a hard beast. I don’t know about you, sometimes staging doesn’t feel ‘real’ but then I realize when the whole house is clean- like for company- it does look staged haha.

Yea, it’s funny because anytime I have to take a picture of something I always make sure it doesn’t look too “no one actually lives here” hence the rainboots. I did wipe off all the dust though 🙂

I agree with you, especially with beds and couches (although we have an abudance of pillows also) I always look at some photos and go, “what you never SIT on your couch?”

Oh my gosh, I’m so in love! It really does jazz up the place so much and looks so fresh and spring like, which I’m definitely needing right now 🙂 So those bins are painted you said? That’s really cool and it does go with the rug really well..I’m also loving your little bird’s nest! Where do you get such good ideas?! Thanks for this little bit of goodness today 🙂

Yea, I just took those bins you get at Target (cloth) and put some painter tape on em and just put two coats of paint on there. It was pretty easy and I love the result!

The birds nest I did a couple years ago after I had leftover rock and moss from a floral arrangement I did. It was super easy, I got everything at Hobby Lobby and just started shoving stuff in there until I liked what I saw! I have a thing for birds that dates back to my childhood, so they are pretty much everywhere in our house!!!

We used Olympic’s Treasure Map for the tan and Olympics Dogwood Blossom for the white. It is the perfect balance of light and dark. Definitely adds interest but not too in your face about it.

Copy away….make sure you get a laser level!!!! It is a life saver 🙂

Best. Story. Ever. Near our house there is a little complex with a Marshalls AND a Home Goods store. One day we popped in the Home Goods store to try and find a big rug for our living room. We couldn’t find one that we LOOOVED but we did find that little guy in the picture. I fell hard and kept complaining that a larger version was no where to be found.

Fast forward twenty minutes and I had persuaded….errrr dragged Tim into Marshalls with me. Low and behold…there is my rug, in a 5′ by 7′ and I snatched it up quick as a fox. It was a rug miracle.

So the short answer is Marshalls or Home Goods should have them (they did about 6 months ago) and the long story is thank goodness my boyfriend is a shopping trooper!
