Today is the last day to enter the giveaway!

Just call us bumble bees because it has been a buzzzzy week.  Too much?

I feel like I haven’t even had a chance to breathe this week, let alone get packed and ready for the Maiedae Mixer with Trisha.  Seriously, what am I wearing?  Where is my camera charger?  And how do I get to Rome, GA?

While my head is buzzing with last-minute details, I am taking a couple of moments to decompress and focus on all of my favorite things from this week.

Normally, my favorite Etsy stores are hand drawn quotes or whimsical characters.  This week though, Pastel Fabels quickly caught my eye with one of those sweet and quirky quotes but Jessica’s photography is what really got my heart racing.  I’m not much of a cat person, but her photos have me dreaming of snuggling those fuzzy purr makers. pastel fables Make sure you visit her site to see the quirky diorama photography.  I want one, I need one, oh baby, oh baby.  In other swoon-worthy news. oh happy day I want to be friends with Jordan, simply because she thought of shrinky dinking photos.  I am absolutely jumping on this train and will be “surprising” Tim with little Christinas in the most unexpected places.  All aboard. bower power Does this even need a pithy explanation?  We love fish, so we love this tablescape.  Easy as pie, oh yum hope it’s blueberry. sawdust and embryos This is the star of my world right now.  Beth took a bunch of jars, dyed them, broke them, and turned them into this b-e-a-u-tiful backsplash.  She is pretty much a backsplash boss, but this is just impressive.  So creative, so labor-intensive, so gorgeous.  Excuse me while I wipe up my drool.

What are you drooling over lately?
Anyone else going to the Maiedae Mixer?
Who is making me a blueberry pie?

Earlier this week, Danielle from Framed Frosting invited us to take part in her Craft With What Ya Got Challenge.

A challenge where I don’t have to buy any new supplies, absolutely.  The theme this week is craft paints.  I have an arsenal of paint, count me in.

I had seen these painted quote canvases all over the web and Pinterest (if you have made one yourself, link to it in the comments) and I was dying to make one of my own.  If you don’t remember our DIY jars, I will remind you that Tim and I are a little feisty.  We like sarcasm, and funny puns, and downright inappropriateness.  So instead of a sweet “I love you to the moon and back” or “you had me at hello” we wound up with this little flirtmeister. a lettered canvas There are lots of tutorials to show you a step by step.  Try here, here, and here.  I will just give you the basics, like what you need to succeed… all you need for a painted canvas and a syllabi for crafting class…. how to paint a lettered canvas …as well as a golden nugget of advice.  Use tweezers to pull the letters off, and be patient because they are gonna rip.  Remember that it doesn’t have to be perfect, those imperfections are called charm.

What have you made with craft paints?
Are you a fan of flirty art?
Are you craving watermelon like I am?

A mini-vacay recap....

Posted by Christina // 8 Replies

For our long weekend, we decided to take a mini-vacay with the family.

It started off great, got a little bumpy, and ended with a bang. where our mini vacay to KC began Ok seriously, if you walk into a hotel and it is swarming with tweens for any sort of event…just turn around and run.  Run right out the fancy foyer and sleep in your car.  You can thank me later with cookies.

We were lucky enough to be surrounded by middle school softball players for a tournament.  At first, I was all googly-eyed.  I always dreamed of playing on a team (any team) that got to travel and compete.  They were so cute with their braids and braces, I was smitten dreaming of the day Tim and I are hauling all the kids around trying to become parents of superstars.

Then came the screaming, and the dance parties (that I wasn’t invited to), the running of the halls, and the incessant giggling.  I was about to break a pitchers arm, and then it happened.  While drifting off into sweet, sweet slumber.  Flashing lights, blaring sirens.  A late night wake up call.  Furious is an understatement.

Don’t get me wrong, at fourteen I would have thought this was hilarious too.  In my late twenties, watching babies crying in terror and grandmas hustling down the steps…it loses the humor.  Can’t we just watch Chris Farley re-runs instead girls?  I’ll pop the popcorn, you can braid my hair.

I bet those little boogers called up Mother Nature too. a series of bad events on our KC trip then came a KC miracle the end of our kc road trip I know that we could have done without the late night fire alarm and the downpour, but I think this trip will go down in the books as fantastic.

I’m sure when we are eighty we will still be laughing about that silly fire drill.

Have you been on any fun trips lately?
Ever pulled the fire alarm as a prank?
Have any travel disaster stories?

DIY Kate Spade kicks....

Posted by Christina // 13 Replies

I have been oogling the Kate Spade Keds for quite some time now.

There is one problem….I am cheap.  If I pay a pretty penny for shoes that cute then they are going on a shelf, not on my feet.  So I did what any cheap girl lusting after shoes does, I got another credit card.

Just kidding, I made my own.  In my favorite colors. DIY kicks I stayed on the lookout for a cute (and cheap) pair of white shoes.  Finally found a pair at Old Navy that were calling my name, in show tunes form.  How can I resist that? supplies Then I came home and got out Pantone’s color of the year paint, you may remember some handsome pots that got a makeover with the same paint.  The hardest part was finding something to make the polka dots with.  I ended up using a set of foam ear plugs that Tim keeps around so he can ignore my snoring.  What as if I actually snore, c’mon.

After about twenty minutes of dotting, I busted out the gold paint pen and glitzed up the toes.  Say ello to my new favorite shoes. DIY cute kate spade shoes I think they are fun and funky and perfect for all our summer shenanigans.

Even Asti approves. asti approved Have you ever made your own shoes?  When I was in eigth grade I took sharpies to a white backless pair, they were my favorite shoes for at least two months.

Hopefully you are relaxing by a body of water, with a cabana boy bringing you mojitos and waving palm leaves over you.

We are in our own kind of paradise, cheering on our hometown baseball team.

Where ever this holiday is taking you, I hope it is full of laughs….the kind that make your belly hurt.  The kind that leak out a little snort-chuckle.  The kind that might-maybe make you drool a little.  Those are the best kind.

Today’s MMM Challenge is a little less laughtastic, and a little more life-saving. monday matters learn some cpr Don’t want to scare you but 95% of sudden cardiac arrest victims die before reaching the hospital, and after only 4-6 minutes the victim will experience brain death.  Now imagine if that is your spouse, or dad, or child.  Sorry I said I didn’t want to scare you.  Puppies and rainbows, and colorful unicorns.  Better?

So I want you to take a very simple step, a class that could save a life.

I got CPR certified about a month ago, the whole class only took a couple of hours and it was a workout.  Seriously, I worked up a sweat trying to bring that dummy back to life.  If nothing else, just do it to burn calories.  Kidding of course, but CPR was a lot harder than Wendy Peffercorn made it look.

Apparently, they have recently changed the technique so if you haven’t been in a while you should get on that.  Call your local hospital to find a class, and bring a friend.  I mean what if it is you that needs CPR, right?

If you aren’t convinced already, I will leave you with this nugget of information…CPR can double a victim’s chance of survival.  Double it.

Are you CPR certified or are you planning on getting certified?
Anyone else worried about how exhausted they were after one minute of CPR?
Would you ever get a Squints tattoo?
