I do believe everyone has caught on to the awesomeness of thrift shops.
Macklemore has helped, but so have DIY blogs.
The blogs that inspire you to take on the horrid dresser and paint it kelly green and change out the hardware and voila it’s gorgeous. Oh c’mon it’s just that easy, right? Yea right.
Obviously I was delighted when one of my favorite blogs decided to host an unofficial thrifting challenge.
The challenge was to basically live out the song…if you have ever seen the video then you know I was dying to run across the recliners. All for the challenge of course, but T wouldn’t let me. What a buzz kill.
There was also a scavenger hunt to find the things they rap about.
I wish we would have tried harder for fringe and green gator boots.
I would say we did pretty good finding all the randomness.
We also found a couple other favorites, look at my boyfriend wiggin out.
He was so excited about that oversized hand.
My favorite find was a little more realistic…and if I would have known that a nice clean person took care of these before me then we’d be eating off them tonight. But there wasn’t a full set and what if a hoarder used to own those in a drawer full of cat poop? These are the things that go through my head people.
On top of finding all those sweet spoils….we stayed under budget too.
I think those are Tim’s favorite words, “under budget”.
So what did we splurge our $18.98 on?
Well, as much as I loved that pink suit….it did not make it home with us.
I have big plans to jazz up most of that stuff. Especially the vase and utensils.
What thrift store gold have you found lately?

I also did the Macklemore Thrift Shop Challenge! Hello! 🙂
http://mrstaliabasman.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-young-house-love-macklemore-thrift.html?m=0
Hey Girl Hey! Can’t wait to see your spoils 🙂
I love this post! And that song… man that song gets me every time. You can’t help but have a little shoulder bounce when you listen to it. Or maybe that’s just me? Hopefully not.
I told Tim that when I had it on repeat while writing the post….it has a sick beat yo 🙂
Oh man is Tim an advertising nerd?!? Or what’s up with the Ogilvy book?
I just can’t get down with gold. Not my thing. Can we still be friends? 😉 I do think that vase is pretty sweet though.
Hahaha….actually….I got my bachelors degree in advertising. I know I know, advertising to accounting what the what. I still love it, just couldn’t handle the “oh wow your idea is fantastic we love it-oh wait it didn’t work-oh you suck” attitude.
Girl you gotta get on the gold train chooo choo….if not I mean I can totally hoard gold for you until you climb onboard!!!!
Oh wow! I guess that explains your awesome blog-design and graphic abilities. I started in advertising then switched to marketing. Definitely a different field from accounting!
I could maybe work some gold into decorating. But on me? Yikes. I don’t know. Does gold work on pasty white redheads?!
Heck yes it does! You’ll look like a godess…just throw on a sheet and call it a toga!!!
How fun! I absolutely love the lantern. I bought that same vase, can’t wait to see what my girl has planned 🙂
Ohhhh yayyyy…great minds think alike, just sayin.
I kept holding the vase and debating…and then when I set it down it basically called out to me.
SO I had to have it 🙂
What fun + colorful finds ~ way to go!
Thanks!!!! And I love your blog name 🙂
Just came over from YHL. First off, great post! Second, I love your blog-writing style! Do you mind me asking what fonts you used in the photos? They’re great!
Awww welcome! And thank you!!! For this post I used BeBe Neue for the blocky letters (free on dafont.com). Simply Gorgeous for the sript (free on dafont.com). And Bell something-or-another for the “simply” (it was on my computers default fonts).
Make sure you check out all of my FREE favorites here
I had so much fun with this challenge too! You found waaay more song references than I.
I love what you purchased especially the kelly green lantern. Can’t wait to see what you do with that vase!
It was a blast wasn’t it!!! I love thrifting…I have been on the hunt for a cool bar cart for ages 🙂
There’s a neat bar idea over on the
creating with the stars challenge, you may want to check out

Ohhhhh I LOVE IT! And oh my gosh that rope table from a tire….I wish that creativity would rub off on me 🙂
Thanks so much for sharing!!!!
I tooottally voted for the tire for pure awesome genius-ness, saving the landfill one tire at a time… could catch on.
Yea, I am sooo impressed with that!!! I voted for it too 🙂
Awesome finds! I look for gold flatware and serving stuff every time I go thrifting, but no luck yet. I have found some awesome gold china and gold whiskey glasses though, so I’m on my way. You’re so lucky to have found some!
Ohhhhh gold whiskey glasses sound amazing!!! I can get down with that 🙂
Gold stuff gives me jazz hands, glad to know I am not alone!
Oh wow, awesome vase! Stopping by from yhl, this is one of my faves! I’m sure US second hand shops are better than English ones!
There are a ton of deals to be had that is for sure…but look at it this way….you can travel to more places than Arkansas and Iowa (two states in the middle of no where).
I would give absolutely anything (even thrift shops) to be so close to so much History and Culture 🙂
Thanks for stopping by Hannah!!!!
Great job on finding all the details from the song. I didn’t even try too hard (just found some luggage and called it a day), but that was likely because I was shopping by myself and it is hard to yuck it up when you are alone. I love the things you found – and all for $20. I especially love the vase and the serving set.
Yea, I would have never been so silly without Tim there 🙂
Great finds, love the serving set and trivets! I love thrift shopping, and telling myself I will follow through on my plans for the items I purchase : )
