Confession:  I am not a very good secret-keeper.

So when I decided to try and throw a surprise anniversary party for my parents I got a little nervous about my loose lips.  I don’t need any sunken ships on my watch, I have enough problems.

I started planning back in April.  I considered making our Fourth of July celebration a super secret surprise party for them, but decided they needed their own day.  The seed of an idea grew into a real life party, the kind with more people coming than can fit in our backyard.  I shifted my attention to a no clean-up option, because that is so my style, and enlisted a few helpers (hi Aunt Joyce, hi Aunt Janet, hi Leika).

We decided on a local Mexican restaurant that my parents visit on the regular, nothing suspicious here folks…just your average taquito dinner.  I am not a newcomer to the fiesta themed parties, remember Katie’s baby shower?  Nachos and margaritas seemed like a thirty year necessity, hope that’s remembered for our thirtieth.

Once the plans were made and the invitations were out, the hard part came over me like a tsunami.  Talking to family, being sneaky, and keeping it from everyone….even you.  Can I openly admit that it was harder not to tell you all about my exciting surprise than it was to keep it from my parents.  Supposedly they read this little blog, so I thought I ought not post any sneak peaks no matter how bad I wanted to

While I was brewing up an idea to get my parents to the restaurant unsuspectingly while not sporting sweatpants, Tim popped the question.  Eureka!  We now had a plan, let’s have an (insert oversized air quotes here) “engagement party”.  Genius, I think I will keep that boy.

Then mass chaos hit.  We got engaged.  I got a new job.  I decided to go to Haven, thereby deciding to take the leap into redesignville.  So those cute favors and custom menus…well they went out the window along with sleep.  I did snag some giant balloons though, so I don’t think anyone noticed. happy-thirtieth-anniversary-to-my-parents great-friends-and-family-at-the-party I would apologize for the photo overload, but I feel like those 300 words above it even it out a little.  Sorry I’m not sorry.  When we got to the restaurant and headed to the back room, my mom peeked in the doors and mumbled, “what in the world…Christina that’s a room full of people”.  Indeed mother, indeed.

Then the doors flew open, “Surprise!” flew out, and the faces my parents made forever engrained themselves into my memory.  Priceless.  They were absolutely surprised, since this party was over a month before their anniversary they were not suspecting anything.  My mom even smacked my dad thinking he was in on it.

Y’all my heart swelled seeing all the love in that room.  There were so many special people there to celebrate, many that I haven’t seen in years.  Just looking at those photos could bring me to tears.  I hope everyone who came knows how much it meant to my mom and dad, and even me.  Whew, need to wrap this up before the tissue box calls my name….it was beyond great.  The end.

Have you ever thrown a surprise party?
Are you a good secret keeper?
Do you want giant number balloons just hanging around for photo-ops?

This is what I would ask for.  Who has the hook-up on a birthday fairy? christinas birthday wishlist 1.  I have talked about it for months, and T even bought me a wooden one, but the time has come for me to become a real life duck mom.  I want to build a habitat and teach it tricks and snuggle it while I am by the pool.  Does that make me a weirdo?  So be it.

2.  Will I ever get sick of washi?  Probably not.

3.  How could I possibly resist a nail polish named “Naughty Nautical” in good conscious.

4.  Joy Cho was the keynote at Alt for Everyone and now I can’t get enough.  I need to soak up all of her knowledge and I need to do it now.  You think she would adopt me?

5.  The first time, ever I saw your face soles.  The gorgeous Elsie has rocked these shoes a time or two and I’ve had them on my wish list for way too long now.

6.  My phone dies….every. single. day.  The Mophie case recharges your phone with the flip of a switch.  Perfect for Pinterest happy fools like me.

7.  You can wear your twitter handle around your neck these days.  I see so many benefits to this.  Conversation piece.  Potential for that creepy guy at the library to find you and stalk your life, but hey it’s a new follower.  Simplifying the whole “can you id this body” thing.

8.  I have a camera crush on Epiphanie bags.  Right now we have a pretty awesome Canon backpack, but I think our camera deserves a stylish alternative.

I can’t believe my birthday is in less than a week.  I love birthdays, but this one feels odd.  I am realizing just how close I am to thirty, and how different my life is from what I imagined.

I am so thankful for another birthday, and instead of asking for presents or parties I am hosting an Etsy “Craft for the Community” gathering so that I can share my aging-happiness with everyone!  If you are in the area please come join me, I promise there won’t be any singing!

What did you do for your last birthday?
Are you where you thought you would be at this age?
What do you want for your birthday, besides world peace?

Happy June….wait June? That means it is officially summer in my book. Summers have always been the highlight of the year, more so when it meant I was on a three-month vacation from books and bullying.  Those were the days, and I decided I want to start reliving them. Instead of taking a three-month hiatus from that thing I call my job I decided to join some amazing co-hosts to bring you the Summer of My Youth Link Up Party.

The idea is simple: relive your youth, blog about it, link it up!  Go somewhere or do something that reminds you of summertime when you were a kid – read a book (or series), visit a place that has meaning, make that recipe you couldn’t get enough of, watch the show or movie you know all the words to, or listen to that CD you wore out.  It can be whatever brings back those awesome summer memories!

Before we dive into the deets, let’s check out the awesome ladies who are playing hosts this summer:
The ladies bringing you your link up are: Love From HomeCharleston Crafted, Tarnished Silver, Jo, My Gosh!, Homemade Ocean, and Hungry Janey!

Now the deets!

Link Up Schedule:
TODAY!  Link your blog up below and let us know you’re on board!  We want to where to be looking for those awesome summer memories.
JULY 1ST, AUGUST 1ST, SEPTEMBER 1ST  Visit the co-hosts on the 1st of each month of the summer for a fresh link up where you can share your Summer of My Youth blog post – tell us what you’ve done, where you’ve gone, how you’re reliving summertime.  You can do all three months or just link up one – the choice is up to you!

Link Up Rules:
1. Follow the co-hosts!
2. Link up your blog! You only need to link up to ONE co-host to be linked to all!
3. Get started on recreating your childhood.
4. Come back July 1st to link up your ‘Summer of My Youth’ post with us!

Yesterday we had a pretty major event at our house.
Only the A-list celebrities were invited and we popped bottles.

Bottles of flea shampoo.  And by A-list celebrities I mean Snoopy, Mr. Ed, Lassie, and Old Yeller.  No one showed up, but that didn’t stop us from celebrating because our old man turned 12 yesterday. howdy happy birthday Yes that hat was impossible to keep on his head…he’s not as into the whole “dress up” thing as like I would like him to be.  I guess I will never understand boys, even if they are of the canine variety.

Tim has raised Tajjie since he was a pup, check out this throwback. whoiscuter I honestly don’t know who’s cuter, the 18-year-old version of my man or the pup.

The short story is that Tim rescued three pitbulls from the back of a truck of a mean, mean man on a cold night.  The long story could bring you to tears so I will spare you, and instead invite you to party with us.  Or at least laugh at the photos while I lust over my younger boytoy.

I stopped in to Treats Unleashed to pick up a couple presents for just such an occassion and decided to make the big one-two super special for Taj.  They did such an incredible job on his cake and let me tell you a little something about customer service, they should teach a class.  I sat there for the entirety of my lunch break deciding on shapes, flavors, colors, and toppings.  Who knew you could have a custom cake, gone are the days of little old raw hides.  Consider me impressed….and a life-time customer.  The pups couldn’t be more thrilled. haveyourcakeandeatittoo Speaking of the pups, they went crazy on this cake.  Taj was so sweet to share with his little sister, not like he had a choice. sweet big brother Please don’t call PETA, we did not let them eat the whole cake.  We actually froze most of it and will give it to them when they don’t bark at the mailman.  The gift that keeps on giving, right?

Have you ever thrown your dog a party?  Been to a doggie wedding?  Please tell me someone else makes their dogs wear silly hats for fun.

This weekend was a complete whirlwind.
The highlight was visiting Ces & Judy’s for our monthly STL Bloggers meet up.

The fine folks at Ces & Judy’s slaved all day in the kitchen, and boy am I thankful.  I kind of wish they would move in and make me delicious food all day.

Oh wait, you didn’t know that Ces & Judy’s did more than cater?
It’s okay, neither did I.

Get ready to be amazed, and slightly jealous because I totally parade our good eats all over this post.  Hope you’re not hungry. call jenna The amazing Jenna Stratman hosted our little shindig and was even sweeter than the brownies they fed us.  I was so excited to see the venue part of Ces & Judy’s since it was completely renovated last fall. the entry

My favorite room was the round room.  It was so cozy and architecturally interesting.  And can I tell you how happy I am to not see red and gold tacky carpet.  You know what I am talking about, right?

Thank goodness when they remodeled, Ces & Judy’s went with a more neutral look.  I’m just saying brides….this will totally go with your colors, no matter what they are.  Ces & Judy’s has got your back. round room Rachael from StyleEveryDay.com was better prepared than I was.  I completely forgot all cameras AND business cards, social networking queen right here.  the details The whole venue was stunning, but here’s what took my breath away. the menu ohbloggers now I am hungry dessert Oh that food was so magically delicious.  Minus the leprechaun.

If you remember the baby shower I planned then you know I am all for letting someone else doing all of your cooking and cleaning.  It is just so much easier, and I am putting Ces & Judy’s on my party places list.

Now who can I throw a party for?

A huge thanks to the St. Louis Bloggers and Ces & Judy’s for throwing such an amazing event.  While Jenna did offer us a free meal for posting about their lovely space the thoughts and praise are all my own.  Especially about that carpet, thank goodness for non-tacky carpet.

Make sure you check out all our awesome St. Louis Bloggers.

I am a political junkie.

I love that I have the right to vote.  I wish more people appreciated that right.
I hope you are going to get out and let your voice be heard.

If you think your vote doesn’t count, look at the smaller picture.

If you live in Missouri we have a HUGE Senate race about to go down and I believe every single vote will count.
Think about Propositions that will most definitely affect you & your neighbors.
The judges that you just may run across one day.
These are the decisions that matter.

Do your research.

There are a lot of tools available to help you make an informed decision.
There are even surveys to find where you fall.

Asti falls for treats.

My New Year’s Resolution was to not discuss politics on social media, and I have done darn well.  If you ask anyone that knows me they will tell you I am overly opinionated when it comes to politics.  But I will always believe that each person is entitled to their own opinion, and should exercise their right to express that opinion.  Even if I hate your opinion….I will still love you.

To avoid being to preachy preachy….I bring you the Election Collection.

Get ready for this nail biter with patriotic cocktails and snacks, you can find millions of recipes on Pinterest or just throw some strawberries and blueberries together and call it a day.

Spice up your wardrobe with handmade bows and feisty Toms to show support for your party.

Even your dog can show some political spirit with this adorable collar.

Really get into the spirit of election night by reusing your Fourth of July decor and adding in some patriotic coasters and Washi tape.

How are you celebrating November 6th?
