This is what I would ask for.  Who has the hook-up on a birthday fairy? christinas birthday wishlist 1.  I have talked about it for months, and T even bought me a wooden one, but the time has come for me to become a real life duck mom.  I want to build a habitat and teach it tricks and snuggle it while I am by the pool.  Does that make me a weirdo?  So be it.

2.  Will I ever get sick of washi?  Probably not.

3.  How could I possibly resist a nail polish named “Naughty Nautical” in good conscious.

4.  Joy Cho was the keynote at Alt for Everyone and now I can’t get enough.  I need to soak up all of her knowledge and I need to do it now.  You think she would adopt me?

5.  The first time, ever I saw your face soles.  The gorgeous Elsie has rocked these shoes a time or two and I’ve had them on my wish list for way too long now.

6.  My phone dies….every. single. day.  The Mophie case recharges your phone with the flip of a switch.  Perfect for Pinterest happy fools like me.

7.  You can wear your twitter handle around your neck these days.  I see so many benefits to this.  Conversation piece.  Potential for that creepy guy at the library to find you and stalk your life, but hey it’s a new follower.  Simplifying the whole “can you id this body” thing.

8.  I have a camera crush on Epiphanie bags.  Right now we have a pretty awesome Canon backpack, but I think our camera deserves a stylish alternative.

I can’t believe my birthday is in less than a week.  I love birthdays, but this one feels odd.  I am realizing just how close I am to thirty, and how different my life is from what I imagined.

I am so thankful for another birthday, and instead of asking for presents or parties I am hosting an Etsy “Craft for the Community” gathering so that I can share my aging-happiness with everyone!  If you are in the area please come join me, I promise there won’t be any singing!

What did you do for your last birthday?
Are you where you thought you would be at this age?
What do you want for your birthday, besides world peace?

I mentioned earlier this week how excited I was to give T his present.
Now I am just as excited to tell you guys about it my card for Tim I mean, could I have found a more perfect card?
I think not.

I had a really cute idea to tell him what we were doing (because I am always up for an adventure) but do you know how tough it is…nay nay impossible it is to find an inflatable intertube in the winter.  So I doodled instead. tubemania

My original plan was for him to blow up an inflatable for a clue, but like I said…none to be found.  He figured out my sweet drawing skills with a quickness.

We are going snow tubing this weekend….you know like grown up sledding.
It might be epic, I think….I’ll keep you posted.

On the other spectrum, I am a spoiled brat.
Avert your eyes if you hate mushiness. pretties

I did surprise T with dinner.
We like to avoid crowds, so this was the only logical solution. our dindin

Onto the good stuff, feel free to sing some Rhianna while scrolling.
Shine bright likea diamond.  Holler. the best present I have ever gotten my knees are weak

Those earrings are probably my favorite thing I have ever gotten, simply because he actually heard me every time I said how much I loved my fakies.  It was so unexpected….I did NOT expect jewelry.  Hence the snow tubing and pizza on my part.  Tim is so thoughtful, and that’s all the bragging I will do promise.

Wanna know the best part?  No horrific calorie intake this year.

How was your Valentines?

Are you all ready for Thanksgiving?

If you are one of the lucky ones that gets to attend instead of host this year make sure you show the little host some love.

Don’t show up empty-handed, because everyone loves a gift.  My go-to gifts have always been a bottle of wine or a fall candle but I think I am going to step out of the box this season.  Here are some of my ideas for all the great people slaving over deviled eggs for me this year.

1.  Bringing something they can use right away is genius in my eyes.  Check out this adorable butter knife that says “spread the love” because isn’t that what this time of year is all about.

2.  If you are pretty close with the hostess and you know their favorite recipe, why not turn it into a gorgeous art print.  Mom’s famous cookies….my sister would love this.

3.  I can at least class up my usual bottle of wine by throwing it in a personalized wine koozie.  Tim’s wine loving mama deserves one of these bad boys.

4.  Tea towels are always a hit, and there are so many cute options.  I’ll host all day long if I get cute tea towels.

5.  Not just any plant, give them something to add some flavor to their kitchen.  Grow your own spice kits are so cute you could eat them up.

6.  I have a retro apron fetish.  Enough said.

The best part about all of these gifts is that they are small businesses.  Tim and I have vowed to only shop homemade and local for the holidays.  I am off to a great start.  Later today I will be sharing my homemade hostess gift, make sure to check back in.

What would you most like to receive if you are hosting?

My baby sister is abandoning me on Thursday.

She is leaving me forever to go off to college, and who knows what kind of trouble she is going to get into.  Everyone knows I am way overprotective, or you should after reading this…so I am a worried mess.

If it was up to me she’d be chained in a library at a dry campus all-girls school, with surveillance from nuns.  Scratch that, because it sounds like the opening scene of some “brown-chicken-brown-cow” flick.

I have tried my best to prepare her for college, being an older sister and all.

Please don’t hate me for that Leika.

But how on earth will she ever survive without me, and my “guidance”

I don’t know either.

So I have made her a little “take care” package.  My way of saying, “please don’t go but if you absolutely have to then you need to be prepared and I can help with that”.

The going-away gift contains all of the things that I never thought about buying but apparently needed once I was on my own.

I also gave her two worded advice, to help her survive.

The best way to make friends is to smell good….truth.

Having snacks is vital.  You make friends by being a junk food dealer, and never go off the deep end out of hunger.

Try not to get sick…..a red, raw nose is never attractive.  Streaming snot will make people avoid you at all costs.

This is more for my sanity.  The girl needs good grades and solid morals, since I had neither.

I also packed a lot of personal surprises in there for her, she loves flamingos.  So I included a flamingo kite, blow up flamingo, and a cookie.  There’s a back scratcher, a cute planner, lots of post-its, and second-hand kitchen utensils.

The best part of this basket….her reactions.

Enjoy.

She was a very happy sister.

“When will I fly a kite Christina?”

“Oh my gosh, it’s an edible flamingo!  I can’t eat that!”

“Oh yea, that hits the spot”

“I haven’t had these since summer camp circa 1997”

“Oh man, I love trash liners”

“Now I can be as organized as you”

“We must be a fish family”

Who is excited for kitchen utensils….this girl is.

“Seriously, did dad make you put this in here?”

“Did you steal this from a hotel you cheapo”

*once I told her it was from my Birch Box, I got the reaction above.  Hmmmm.

“Ummmmm, this is used.  Did you really give me a burnt spatula?”

“A blow up flamingo, where do you find this crap?”

“It’s fine, I’m grateful for all the used and stained stuff.  Except your sheets, that’s not ok”

“Don’t be cheap next time”

“So what are you trying to say with all the smell good stuff”

I’m not trying to say anything Leika….except that’s what they had at the Dollar Store.  I’m sorry about the lint roller, but Scotch tape works just as well.

Even though she made fun of almost everything in the basket, she was very happy to get a bunch of stuff that she hadn’t even thought about.

I think she is ready.

However, I don’t think I am ready for her to be ready.

Can’t I just keep her like this forever….

Best of luck my little Leika.
