You know all those fabric scraps you have just lying around looking pretty?
I declare that we should show them off. double hoop wreath I had some Ikat fabric mocking me that had a calling as a superstar.
I love how fabrics can take on a whole new look when you wrap them. double hoop wreath supplies I scrounged around my craft stash and dug up two embroidery hoops.  I knew they would come in handy eventually, although I thought it would be for when I took the embroidery plunge.

I began by wrapping the fabric around the larger hoop, then found a complimentary fabric to wrap the smaller hoop.  Then I hit a wall.  Not a real one, although it wouldn’t surprise anyone thanks to my clutzy nature.  I wasn’t sure how to attach the two hoops.  The answer to all crafting problems is either Mod Podge or Hot Glue, can I get an Amen.

So from attaching the hoops together to bedazzling the wreath with fabric flowers my thumbs took a piping hot glue beating.

The whole thing took about an hour and now I have dreams of thousands of fabric covered wreaths hanging from our tree in the backyard.  Beckoning the birdies to perch for a minute.  That would be my happy place, until they pooped on my new Adirondack chairs.  Then I would bust the broom out and hop on the crazy train.  Choo Choo.

Have you been dreaming of bird heaven in your backyard?
DIY’d any fun projects?
What do you do with your fabric scraps?

Bathroom inspiration...

Posted by Christina // 4 Replies

You already know that we tore apart our bathroom after a casual trip to Lowes.

And that we are struggling with finishing decisions….to trend or not to trend.

Today, I want to share a whole lot of inspiration with you….just in case you are having second thoughts about that bathroom of yours.

Can we first talk about the “inspiration” you can find on the internet though.  Please raise your hand if you have a bathroom the size of my basement because according to the interweb this is totally normal.  You should have two showers, and a ten foot vanity, and a sofa…and can I get a hot tub.  Somehow we got jipped with just one sink, and no room for a Lazyboy.  Lame.

I think a lot of these inspiration photos can be scaled down, and elements can be used in smaller spaces.  If we are being honest, I am dreaming that the lottery ticket I bought yesterday is a winner so that I can hand the photos below to a builder and say, “I’ll take one of each”.

Come on lucky numbers….

I love so much about this first bathroom.  From the arches creating a “built-in” shower to the mirror that wraps into recessed shelving.  That vanity is right up our alley as well.  Did you notice the sink faucet is on the wall, now that is fancy.

Tim and I are throwing the “horizontal built-in shower shelf” around a lot these days.  We pin them and email them and dream of gorgeous accent tiles in the back of  them.  I love the oversized shower head and T is feeling the “hidden” storage above the toilet.
Am I the only one that hasn’t seen a towel bar on the side of a vanity?  I think it is genius, Tim says that’s old news.  Either way how fun are the insides of that vanity?  Put that on the to-do list.
This next bathroom is not really the look we are going for, and I generally am not a fan of mosaic tile but can you imagine showering in a pearl.  Seriously, that’s what it would be like…a shimmery oyster shower without the fish smell.  We really love the frameless shower doors, keeping our fingers crossed that they are in the budget.
Still in love with herringbone….enough said.
We love all the different tile going on in this bathroom, and how cohesively they mix.  This makes me want a window so badly, I long to hear the bird chirping while I condition my hair.  Maybe one day.
Another image that solidifies my love for subway tile.  Swoonity swoon swoon.
I don’t think I can talk Tim into this but I’m obsessed with those hanging light fixtures.  We looked at tile similar to this but worried that with no natural light the room would feel dark and gloomy.  We are suckers for contrast.
I know this isn’t technically a bathroom….but I wanted to give you a peek at the kindle that started our “glass tile and stainless” fire.

I told you that when we went to look for flooring we magically picked out tile for the master bathroom.

We even brought the samples home, and displayed them proudly for all to see.  All meaning us…and the dogs.  Then something happened, I freaked out.  I started thinking about staring at that tile for the next ten years, and wondering how hideous the next home owners would think it was.  Will my faux wood floor be the equivalent of gold shower doors?  Will this “linen look” actually just come off as dirty?

Originally we picked out “Leonia Silver” for the walls and “Sersa Black Walnut” for the floors.  We had left any accent tiles up in the air….and that’s when the panic set in.  We still really like both, but we just don’t think they are quite right for our space.

I started browsing.  Pinning like a maniac, and rekindling my romance with Houzz.

Tim and I both agree that this room should be masculine and modern.  What we can’t agree on are the finishes.  We both like a couple different things that always end up contradicting.  For instance, we both love the faux wood tile from our original dream team…but hate the look of it with a wood vanity.  Enter gray floating vanity stage right.  If only there were an Ikea closer.

Hola Option One. option one I have a serious crush on the Turkish Bath Towels, and a new bathroom is a totally legitimate excuse to buy some.  Almost everything pictured would come from Lowes, with the exception of that vanity from Ikea.

But then again… option two On the other hand we also both like the herringbone trend, but aren’t crazy about it on the walls.  Which leaves us with floors, which means we could have a wood vanity….but that means no wood floor clearly.  And then we are left with what to do on the walls.  Tim likes a manly mosaic, but I still can’t quite commit.

Are you down with the herringbone?  Think I can convince Tim to let me bring some more color in?  What is your favorite?

Ok so I have never actually finished the books….but Tim’s last name is Gray so I feel like it’s totally appropriate.

There will be no crazy smut scenes on this blog folks.  You’re welcome.

Although there will be lots of desk talk.  Just as exciting, right?

We have been spending a lot of time in the office lately; T is really busy at work when he is not learning HTML for me.  I have been obsessed with finding little nuggets of gold on the galactic universe we call the internet to inspire an office makeover.

Our office needs to be two things….comfortable and functional.  We are in the office chairs way more than we are on our nice fluffy-hug-me-with-pillows couch, so we need a little cushion for the tush that’s for sure.

If Tim had his way, it would have wall-to-wall fish tanks.  Huge flat screens on every wall.  Three, yes three, enormous monitors on his oversized desk.  An endless supply of pens, and snack food.   A built-in bathroom.  A recliner.  A fridge, fully stocked.  Oh and a maid, can’t forget the maid.  And my office would be in another room.

My dream office looks a little more like this…

Moodboard, gray, lighting, office, rug, chair, black, paint, color, DIY, remodel, idea

Our whole house is pretty light and airy; I need some moodiness in my life.  Which is why I went with a princess of darkness kind of feel.  All it needs is some dang handcuffs or a tie or something.

First thing is first….our walls right now are this mucus yellow color.  There isn’t a plethora of rooms that can handle the snot look, you’re really limited to the bathroom.  So we are going to tone it way down with a not too dark gray.  We really want to do one wall with chalk board paint so we have a fun way to jot down schedules, love notes, and play hangman of course.  For all of you worried that “it will be so dark” we have a huge window that lets in more than enough light.  We are thinking Benjamin Moore‘s, Bear Creek.

The rug is a little feisty, and more for Asti to have something soft to play on.  I think the office should be inspiring and needs lots of little fun pops of interest to keep you coming back.  This rug definitely pops.  Plus the whole I-look-like-an-animals-stripes thing throws a natural element into this very gray and sophisticated room.

The chair is perfection…I would love to find a cushy chair like this at a yard sale and completely DIY something to be this chairs little sister.  Dark, high gloss paint….fancy schmancy fabric and it comes out looking like a curvaceous piece of comfort.  Mama likey.

Every single day one thought crosses my mind.  “I need an ottoman.”  This one not only looks good, but I’m fairly certain I wouldn’t have that “oh wow this is digging into my calf” feeling that I get from most ottomans.  Not sure if our office is big enough to hold it, but a girl can dream.

As much as I love Gray…I crave a pop of bold color.  Hello sweet, industrial, bright blue desk.  With the curves of the chair, frames, and mirror…we need something to break all that girlyness up.  You know you want to sit and blog at this desk.  It’s so simple.  I find that if I have a bunch of drawers, they just get stuffed with secret junk.  I would prefer some open shelves above the desk to stay a little more organized.  Next to Tim’s flat screen of course.

The mirror is the bling that will draw your eyes up and away from our funky rug.  Just enough glitz for the room, and a good way to check the bags under your eyes to know if you should call it a night.  She is like our little pageant queen.

Then it all comes down to the details.  You know we need a fish in every room, so voila…fish vase.  Sweet ruffled curtains to lighten up all of the gray.  Chunky black frames full of homemade art.  And a huge candy jar, filled to the brim to keep my man happy!

There you have my dream office….now to get T on board.  Wish me luck!
