The other day T and I decided to take a little stroll though the flooring aisle at our local hardware store…you know…for fun.
We have big dreams of replacing all of our flooring with gorgeous hardwood floors, you know when we hit the lottery. Since we bought a lotto ticket that day we figured we might as well start planning. Somehow we wound up in the tile aisle, more dreaming.
Only this time, we did more than dream.
We picked out tile.
For two years all Tim has talked about is updating the bedroom bathroom. For two years I have pushed project after project in front of that bathroom because it was so overwhelmingly grimey in there that I was just more comfortable closing the door and whispering about our “problem child” behind its back.
Well, bedroom bathroom…your time has come.
I know it isn’t covered in Pepto pink tile and shag carpet, but it is definitely outdated and ready for some upgrades. Not to mention, the dirt. We have tried so hard to scrub that shower tile clean to no avail, scrubbed so hard that we decided it’s easier to just replace it.
Can we talk about towel bars for a moment. They are everywhere in this house. Above every toilet. In every shower. Across from the toilet and on the doors. We don’t even have enough towels to keep them all stocked. Combine them with the soap dishes and toothbrush holders of yesteryear and you have a whole lotta tile fixin.
All of that tile fixin made T very angry. He channeled his inner Lou Ferrigno and busted out the whole bathroom in under three hours.
Tim’s parents had stopped by to bring us an exercise bike, and they decided to get in on the fun. Thank goodness for family.
Now our bathroom looks a little something like this.
Tomorrow I will be sharing a little inspiration for the new look.
Have you ever renovated a bathroom?
Share some tips, we are all ears.

Have fun! We did ours last summer, and it took a couple of months, but I *love* how it turned out!! Totally worth all the time and effort.
Did you blog it? I’ll have to check out pictures because I am trying to soak up all the inspiration I can 😉
Yes ma’am! Here’s the reveal post – the pictures are a little wonky (there’s no natural light in the room), enjoy!

Can’t wait to see it (my work computer is blocking the post but I did get on your home tour and snoop for it….very pretty and I love the basement bathroom too!) We have the same problem with no natural light, isn’t that such a bummer! I love opening windows and listening to the birdies chirp in the shower.
Maybe I’ll get one of those sound machines and just pretend haha
A) I guess you changed the read-setting because I can’t read your posts in my Reader anymore (although Google Reader is going away soon which is TRAGIC).
B) I’d suggest decorative towels over the toilet maybe? Seasonal and festive, like Santa or four leaf clovers. It’s your toilet-mantel haha
C) Holy wow this bathroom demo is impressive. I envy your handy boyfriend. Mine can rock a paint roller and screwdriver and that’s about it.
D) I can’t wait to see your inspiration and how this turns out!!!
SAY WHAT? Has Tim been messing with settings again? I am on it, because I can’t stand when you can’t read the full post in GR.
Ohhh giiiirl I already have a couple towel sets picked out! It’s a little hard because this is going to be the man-bathroom…so my coral colored seahorse towels are getting funny looks from Timbo.
Tim has been quite impressive throughout the years. Our first Christmas I was out appliance shopping because I couldn’t get our oven to work and voila he had fixed it. I wouldn’t have even known where to start haha!
Remember when I said we had picked out tile….well we did but now I am going all haywire because I just don’t know if it is perfect haha. I am making at least two moodboards!
I can read the full post now 🙂 Although Google is hiding Reader now… ugh. (at least in my account)
I thought Tim was All That Is Man? Dude can handle some coral. Just add navy or something manly-ish 😉
Do you think you guys will live there a while longer? (You don’t need to answer that). That makes picking tile easier. As if it’s even a little easy to begin with… ha. You can do it! You’ll pick something fabulous and classic-yet-cool and purdy. That’s my prediction!
See that is a good questions Janelle….we don’t know. We hope we will live there for a while, it is a great sized house with everything we need. BUT if an opportunity comes along (our odds are increased because Tim is in real estate and always showing me “deals”) that we couldn’t pass up then we would grab it by the horns 🙂
This whole tile-picking experience has been a lot of Tim saying “resale value” and me saying “so pretty”. We shall see I guess.
Yea, Google Reader got hijacked by our latest jetpack update I suppose. I won’t ever willingly go to the preview only side of GOogle Reader….you know for the next couple months haha.
Oh my gosh!!!! How exciting to start completely fresh..I mean REALLY fresh..you’ve got nothing but studs in there girl! So I am fast forwarding from the days of you shutting the door to this room and pretending like it doesn’t existing to you awkwardly trying to host cocktails parties in it! You do realize that when this project is done and you got to pick out every single detail for this space you’re going to want to spend all your time in there. I can’t wait to see the vision, the progress and all the details for this space! Hooray hooray! Such fun!
Hahaha…cocktail parties hahahah…who does that? (I have already sent the invites shhh)
I am really excited, but I gotta tell you…I am having mini panic attacks with every decision! I think ohhhh we should totally do the herringbone tile, wait that is too trendy. What if we hate it in five years…or what if that is the equivilant of pepto pink tile in ten years…gasp!
I thought we had it all figured out, and now I am browsing and trying to find inspiration and it is just muddling the vision hahaha. I did tell Tim that it MAY become my new favorite room once we can finally decide on all the details 🙂 Meaning I will totally kick him to the guest bathroom haha!
WOW Tim has his hands full!
Hahaha….you mean I have MY hands full!
