DIY Kate Spade kicks....

Posted by Christina // 13 Replies

I have been oogling the Kate Spade Keds for quite some time now.

There is one problem….I am cheap.  If I pay a pretty penny for shoes that cute then they are going on a shelf, not on my feet.  So I did what any cheap girl lusting after shoes does, I got another credit card.

Just kidding, I made my own.  In my favorite colors. DIY kicks I stayed on the lookout for a cute (and cheap) pair of white shoes.  Finally found a pair at Old Navy that were calling my name, in show tunes form.  How can I resist that? supplies Then I came home and got out Pantone’s color of the year paint, you may remember some handsome pots that got a makeover with the same paint.  The hardest part was finding something to make the polka dots with.  I ended up using a set of foam ear plugs that Tim keeps around so he can ignore my snoring.  What as if I actually snore, c’mon.

After about twenty minutes of dotting, I busted out the gold paint pen and glitzed up the toes.  Say ello to my new favorite shoes. DIY cute kate spade shoes I think they are fun and funky and perfect for all our summer shenanigans.

Even Asti approves. asti approved Have you ever made your own shoes?  When I was in eigth grade I took sharpies to a white backless pair, they were my favorite shoes for at least two months.

Have you ever come across a project and thought, “yup I have to do that immediately”?

That is exactly how I felt when I saw Ashley’s coasters.

If you have ever done a DIY project you probably already have ninety percent of the supplies.  Painters tape, check.  Paint, check.  Some feisty gold spray paint, check.  If you have tiles, well then you are all set.  We had to go pick up that last one, but check this out. the cost You got it, this whole project cost us a whopping thirty cents.  That is a DIY deal if I have ever seen one.  A little paint, a little patience and you get these pretty little souvenirs. best diy ever Check out the full tutorial here.

While I had all the paint out I figured I ought to spruce up some boring household items, you may have caught sneak peeks if you follow us on Facebook.  If you don’t follow us on Facebook, you should get on that…because I love getting more than crickets when I ask questions like, “who is inviting us over for dinner?”

Enough shameless self promotion, while looking around the house for things to spruce I heard a whistle.  I looked around my kitchen and then heard a yelp.  Then there was some sort of crashing boom and the refrigerator caught my eye.  Well, what once was our fridge at least.  Lately, it has become a scrapbook of sorts. we still have christmas cards up Please don’t look too closely or you will see two-year old Christmas cards, I can’t help it my friends have cute kids.  I lovingly took all those sweet cards and announcements down and tucked them in a memory box.  I also made a resolution to take down Christmas cards before the Fourth of July.  To help keep the fridge looking classy I decided our magnets needed a little makeover, I mean I already had the paint out so why not.

I took our boring silver clasp magnets (because they hold like a boss) and gave them a rocker edge.  Tim likes them because he thinks they look like little nautical flags but I say Mick Jagger would be proud. the easiest magnets youll ever make A little Frogtape, a couple thin coats of color, and voila….a whole new look. and your announcements are safe in a scrapbook I promise to keep that fridge clean and whistle at it before it has to yelp at me.

Do you have matching magnets?
Is your fridge plastered in cards and momentos?
Got any crafts for all those announcements?

March Mantel-ness....

Posted by Christina // 2 Replies

This is for all the ladies in the midst of brackets and basketball.

We can make our own March fun, right?
We can call it mantel madness, you down?

A couple weeks (yes weeks) ago I decorated the mantel for St. Patty’s Day.
What can I say, I am excited.

Once again I have to ask for photography forgiveness.  Mantel is directly across from our fish tank.  Hence, lots of blue glowiness and glares. march mantel I had lots of yarn left over from my St. Pat’s wreath, so I channeled my inner Martha and made lots of yarn poufs and called it garland.

Have you been decorating in green and gold?
Got a fancy mantel?  I’d love to see it.

Has anyone else been counting down the days since March 18th, 2012?

I am totally going to be as tacky as they come in every shade of green.
I may even break out my beer mug hat…reliving the glory days.

If I was slightly classy I may dress more like this. miss lady luck nails.bracelet.earrings.ring.top.shoes

For the girls that aren’t a teeny little thing (congrats to the ones that are) I found a really cute pair of green jeggings at JC Penny.  Bonus that they are super comfy and they have a rainbow of colors.

Would you get down with a disco ball shirt?
Do you have your outfit planned already?

Is it March yet...

Posted by Christina // 20 Replies

I try really hard not to wish my life away…but what is the hold up on March?

March is one of my favorite months.  Tulips start blooming, birds start singing and there is this one little holiday.  My favorite holiday.  Yes I was totally the girl who would pinch everyone for not wearing green.  Sorry for annoying you back in the day friends, but I hope you learned your lesson.

Did you know my last name is Bailey, like the Irish Creme.  That was my tagline in college so people could remember me when they Facebook stalked later.
Oh St. Pattys, I am waiting patiently.

Until then, I will just make lots of pretty green things. Get lucky wreath I want to see green and gold in every corner of my home this time of year.

This was an inexpensive and fairly easy DIY. put a flower on it
The best part is the endless color combinations…I am thinking I need a yarn wreath in every color.  Ohhhh now I am seeing a whole wall of colorful wreaths.

If only I had the patience. the goods I went to Hobby Lobby the other day to catch a sale on yarn and fabric.  I also had a 40% off coupon so the whole project cost under $10.  Have you looked at wreaths online lately?  They are not cheap people.

I will give you advance warning, make sure you have a good movie queued up when you start.  Wrapping the yarn took me about an hour and a half, so thankfully I got all caught up on the Gypsy Sister drama.  Holler.

Can you guess what I used for the white fabric? can you believe it They are some tee shirts that T was about to throw out.  Score!

If you don’t already have a fabric flower tutorial pinned, make sure you check out Katie Bower’s of Bower Power Blog.  It is the best I have seen, and there is a video.  You’ll be a flower making professional in no time.

Are you overly excited to go green?
Will you be drinking green beer?
Any parades in your future?

Did you know Rolla, Missouri has one of the biggest Pats celebrations?

I am not a golddigger....

Posted by Christina // 6 Replies

But recently I have been growing a little sweet spot for gold.

There is something sweet and girly about gold, maybe when the price of it started going up I started taking notice of it’s sparkle.
Oh wait…I am not a gold digger.

But I am digging this gold. While perusing one of my new favorite sites Stella & Dot I noticed all the things that I was jotting down on my I’ve-been-good-for-Christmas list happened to have something in common.

Gold.

This is not your grandmother’s gold people, the pops of color keep it fresh and fun.  Although there’s a certain vintage charm that comes with sporting giz-old.

Everything above can be found on Stella & Dot, in case you are starting your Christmas shopping early friends.

This is not a blatant hint…ahem I really love the green ring.  What is your favorite?
