Make Monday Matter....get a checkup

Posted by Christina // 12 Replies

I have had a pain in my side for a couple of months now.  Could be my appendix, could be a cyst, could be gas.  I don’t know because I have avoided getting the ultrasound my doctor ordered in September.

It’s usually always “nothing” right?  It would be a waste of time and money to get it checked out….I am sure it’s nothing.  That was my excuse until I listened to someone I love make the same excuses.  I spent all weekend trying to convince that loved one to go to the doctor while hiding the fact that I’ve put it off even longer than she has.

Got a tooth hurting?  Just wait until you can’t even eat before you go to the dentist.
Feeling stuffy?  Oh just wait until it’s full-blown bronchitis…no biggie.

Well, I am ready to make a change.  A virtual “putting down of the foot” for my health.  I’m hoping it will convince my loved one, and maybe one or two of you to do the same. get a checkup You got it, I am making my appointment today.  On top of getting the dreaded ultrasound, I may actually go to the dentist as well.

Do you put off going to the doctor?
Any self-diagnosers addicted to WebMed like me?
What do you do in the waiting room?

Can I second this? A little over a year ago I went for my annual “well woman” poke, prod, scrap. Usually it’s 15 mins of staring intensely at the ceiling valiently ignoring what the Doc is doing until… ” Hmmm. That feels odd.” NOT what you want to hear. Long story short I ended up having a fairly big operation to remove a 5cm thankfully benign cyst from my ovary. I had no idea it was there. I probably wouldn’t have known until it either ruptured or cut off the blood supply to my ovary which would have had serious, and possibly life threatening consequences. So yeah, go spend 15 uncomfortable minutes with your doctor. Can’t hurt right?

Oh yikes! Yea…I usually am pretty good about the “check-ups” I just always seem to put off any more elaborate procedures. I am always scared of what they will find…but it is always better to find things early right.

Sorry to hear about your ovary cyst, had you had any pain or anything prior to your appointment? Glad to hear you are doing better!!! I will def go get mine checked out 🙂

Nope. Nothing. Nada. It was literally a routine annual check up when he felt it, sent me for an ultrasound & then on to a specialist.

Hahahaah….I will need his name and number and a twin brother in St. Louis please 🙂

I had a stud of a chiropractor at one point, but I got all sweaty everytime he adjusted me so I started going to his dad! I racked up a heck of a bill just to see him though. It’s always the best when they are hunky AND super nice. Of course that was long BEFORE I had a sweet boyfriend to give me back rubs hahaha

Ugh I do the same thing! As of right now I need to make my yearly appt with the gyno, switch my appointment with my eye doctor for another day (for the second time) and then go and get blood work done for my primary doctor that I got paperwork to do, like a month or so ago! I keep putting making appointments off, and keep telling myself I will do it! Maybe tomorrow I will! lol
