My twenty-seventh birthday will go down in history.

All I asked for was a duck.

Instead, my boyfriend gave me the gift of knowing that I get to kiss him everyday for the rest of our lives. he asked and i said yes I get to marry my best friend.

I have smiled the biggest, glowy, cheese ball smile for the last two days.  Let me tell you all about it.

Christina’s story:  Talk about a surprise.  Sweet Tim knew that I would not be suspicious of a romantic night out if it was for my birthday.  He took me out for my favorite dinner and even let me order the dang lobster dinner.  He pacified me as I talked about the newest Kardashian and laughed at me when I burned all my taste buds off.  He was so cool, calm and collected I never gave any thought to this being anything more than a birthday dinner.  Tim knows me, he knows that I don’t do terribly well with surprises and I pretty much despise being in the limelight.  This was not the place.

Tim had a plan, a cute duck with a ring around its neck.  Who knew ducks would be so hard to come by this time of year.  So then he considered Asti and quickly decided a vet X-ray would not be a very romantic proposal.  Plan B was a lovely fire and a bottle of wine.  Then it poured.  St. Louis was under flash flood warning and even though he tried to convince me that “he could totally make a fire with swamp wood”.  I just stood over him drinking my wine and commenting on all the projects we need to tackle this weekend.  While staring DIY in the eye he decided we needed to take the party inside.

This is where my obliviousness comes into play.  Tim begged me to let him make a fire.  We could curl up by the fireplace and finish our wine and stare into each others eyes or something.  I should have seen where it was going…instead I convinced him that he would be all dirty and it probably wouldn’t even start and I mean it is summer so we really shouldn’t be heating our house.  Oblivious.  Instead I drag him onto our couch and beg him for presents, because that’s just the kind of gal I am.

This is where I tell you how awesome T is for getting me the phone case I wanted.  He is awesome.  Playing it so cool.  I am still hopelessly clueless re-charging my phone.  Then he starts teasing me.  “Asti, mama has another gift huh?” he says.  “Should we give her the other gift, I’m not sure she will like this one” he says.  “Wanna watch some TV?” he says.  Fast forward to me on hands and knees begging for another present, keeping my fingers crossed for that little chirping snugglebun.

In strolls Timothy.  Hands behind his back.  “Put your hands out” is all he says.  I listen intently for chirping, got nothing….then I fear the worst….he got me worms.  After a small panic attack, I refuse and he simply says, “then just turn around”.  I always do as I am told.  When I turned back around that little ninja had taken a knee.  Right about here my mind goes blank.  I can’t remember a thing.  I am told I made a funny hand gesture that led T to believe I was saying “no”.

He had a spiel, but apparently I jumped in his arms so fast that all he got out was “Christina Renee, you are the love” and tackled.  Then there were lots of kisses and smiles and “oh myyyy gosh”s.  Then it happened, then he told me the story. the ring This ring, this beautiful ring, was the ring that Tim’s grandpa gave his grandma after returning from WWII.  When Tim and I met, we had some major bonding over the love we had for our grandparents so I know how important and special this is to him.  I have never had anything so precious to me in my life, a little treasure.  Cue the tears.  Yes, there was lots and lots of ugly crying.  The kind that chokes your airway off and snot bubbles become a real possibility.  Why does this guy want to marry me again?  I’m stumped.

After a good thirty minutes of tears and kissing, I composed myself for this gem. we are excited Pure happiness.

Tim’s story:  I asked, she said yes.  Thank goodness.

Now the real fun begins!  Any tips?  Advice?  Please don’t tell Tim to run.

It should be pretty obvious that we love our pets.  Whether it is our perky little fish, lovable dogs, the duck Tim won’t let me have, or a bird that calls our porch home we have a spot in our heart for all of them.

Sometimes though, it is very easy to get wrapped up in the busy day-to-day schedule and skip those afternoon walks.  Or water changes.  Or building birdhouses.  There are days we feel like the worst pet parents in the world.  When we are glued to computer while our pups and fish cause a ruckus. love you pets Today we are making time for all of our animals (except that duck, sigh).  We are taking the pups to the park, making an extra special treat for our underwater friends and maybe even putting a piece of bread out for our bird friend.  You may in fact call that last one a bribe so that once there are babies in the nest I don’t get dive-bombed.

With everything that our animals do for us, the least we can do is make today a little extra special for them.  Tim has laid down the law though, no one is allowed anymore toys.  Something about no dogs should have three “toy boxes” and a closet, or whatever.  I’m just trying to keep them happy so they can go all Lassie later and call 911 when I am in trouble and then we can go on the Oprah show and win dog shows and junk.

Do you have any animals?
How do you pamper them?
Any advice on bribing birds?

I mentioned earlier this week how excited I was to give T his present.
Now I am just as excited to tell you guys about it my card for Tim I mean, could I have found a more perfect card?
I think not.

I had a really cute idea to tell him what we were doing (because I am always up for an adventure) but do you know how tough it is…nay nay impossible it is to find an inflatable intertube in the winter.  So I doodled instead. tubemania

My original plan was for him to blow up an inflatable for a clue, but like I said…none to be found.  He figured out my sweet drawing skills with a quickness.

We are going snow tubing this weekend….you know like grown up sledding.
It might be epic, I think….I’ll keep you posted.

On the other spectrum, I am a spoiled brat.
Avert your eyes if you hate mushiness. pretties

I did surprise T with dinner.
We like to avoid crowds, so this was the only logical solution. our dindin

Onto the good stuff, feel free to sing some Rhianna while scrolling.
Shine bright likea diamond.  Holler. the best present I have ever gotten my knees are weak

Those earrings are probably my favorite thing I have ever gotten, simply because he actually heard me every time I said how much I loved my fakies.  It was so unexpected….I did NOT expect jewelry.  Hence the snow tubing and pizza on my part.  Tim is so thoughtful, and that’s all the bragging I will do promise.

Wanna know the best part?  No horrific calorie intake this year.

How was your Valentines?

His and Hers - February

We couldn’t resist throwing our favorite things out a day early in order to go all Valentiney on y’all.  And by me I totally mean me, myself, and I.

Tim was not as excited when I told him he needed to come up with his favorite Love-themed things…but he did it.  And once it was all together he was so excited that he gave me my V-day present early!

I let him put you on the D.L.
Dad, that means down low….and it’s like secrets and stuff. fellers

1.  Sea Salt Caramel Brownies – need I say more.
Wait I will say this, please make more.

2.  Anyone that knows me knows that I am a loyal Nike consumer.  In fact while writing this we counted five Nike products on my body, including my glasses.  So go figure I would jazz up my shocks with a little holiday color.  Then they can work overtime at Christmas.

3.  Any good guy has to know how to put a little work in.  The Notebook is a sure thing, after all the tears of course.  I usually opt for a little Phil Collins karaoke, she digs it.

4.  I have been feeling the “steampunk” look lately and what better way to show off your mushiness than with an anatomically correct heart belt, right?

5.  The secret to life is to smell good.  People just like you if you smell good.  Jean Paul Gaultier’s Le Male is Christina’s favorite, can’t argue with that.

6.  Does this need an explanation?  This is the most festive man shirt you will find. ladies 1.  Isn’t it a rule that you have to smell sweet on dates?  It should be, I feel like Romance is the perfect choice for obvious reasons.

2.  How cute is that dress from ModCloth.com.  I have this weird obsession with cloths from the 1940’s-60’s….I don’t wear them but I always wish I would have grown up then so we could wear dresses everyday.

3.  Do you remember Louise from Sex and the City the movie?  St. Louis representin.  She always carried her “love” with her….I feel a little piece of me was jealous.  I don’t know if it was due to Jennifer Hudson’s amazing transformation, or the cute love key chain but I need both.

4.  Bling it up….always.  Especially on V-day.  I am not the biggest fan of the heart shape, but these are perfect for the occasion.

5.  I can’t tell you enough how much I love this nail polish!  I wear it plain, I layer it over teals and blacks and other pinks….I love love love it.  You simply can’t go wrong with pink glitter, period.

6.  I am all about accessorizing these days, and this adorable heart bracelet could jazz up any basics.

7.  I am truly smitten with this bag, it is actually from Kate Spade’s bridal collection and I imagine it is even more beautiful in person.  It looks so soft and romantic, if I ever get rich then I will buy them for everyone okay.

Right on the mantel.

I love decorating for holidays, and I change out our mantel decor for every major holiday like it’s my job.

Valentines Day is one of my favorites.

Just in case you are new to these parts, or maybe you just forgot…this is the area of the house where I request photo forgiveness.  You see, the mantel is directly across from our 210 gallon tank.  We are talking glare, blue overcast, and all kinds of glow.  I correct as much as I can but at least you’ll know why it looks like we have a black light in the corner.  Disco time.

one love two loves Tim thinks it look like we had the whole Pepto-Bismol family over for dinner.
I call it festive.

How are you all gearing up for Valentine’s Day?
