Fourth of July mantle....

Posted by Christina // 15 Replies

While I do heart anything patriotic…but I am generally not a fan of Independence Day.

Gasp!  A holiday Christina doesn’t like.

Not sure if Will Smith scarred me for life, or if it just my disdain for loud noises.  It could also have something to do with the fact that for the first 25 years of my life I “thought” I didn’t like BBQ sauce.  I am not sure why, but other than decking myself out in red, white, and blue and enjoying the day off I usually don’t do too much for this holiday.

Now please don’t come at me with “I hate ‘Merica” bashing.  The Star Spangled Banner makes me cry, we fly our flag high, and I am eternally grateful for the freedom our soldiers fight for every single day.  I just don’t like things that go boom and shake the house mmkay.

This year, that is all changing.

We decided that 2013 would be the year we would host a Fourth of July BBQ.
So this year, our home is decked out in stars & stripes. full mantle My mantle makes me happy. fourth of july mantle What is your least favorite holiday?
Any good Fourth recipes I should know about?
Know of any “quiet” firework shows?

Oh Christina!! I must convert you. The 4th of July is my favorite holiday! But…I have always loved bbq sauce. Get some fountains, they are pretty and quiet. Sparklers are always nice too 😉

Hahaha…I actually LOOOVE BBQ sauce now (once I actaully tasted it haha) and I love beer and friends and being outside so you would think this would be one of my favorites.

I got burned by a sparkler and it ruined them for me haha. I am just seriously terrified of fireworks and I think that overrides all of the fun stuff! I am down with smoke bombs though, and those little snakes hahaha

That’s a fantastic mantle. I need to see what your mantles look like for Holidays you LOVE!
I think my least favorite Holiday is Easter. Maybe when I have kids and I can hide Easter Eggs and buy them chocolate bunnies I will like it more, but I don’t have any real fond memories of it from my childhood and as an adult without kids, it just seems kind of blah. I’ll have to see how my feelings evolve on this one.

Hmmmmm that is interesting. Easter was a favorite as a kid but you are right, in the last five or ten years it has just been kind of ehhhh.

Tim and I did dye eggs two years ago and that was a blast. We are just big kids I tell ya 🙂

Did you make that “land of the free home of the brave” print? I WANT IT! Pleeeeease! I pay in cookies! Or dollars… 🙂

4th of July is tricky for us. We honor and enjoy the holiday but wish people wouldn’t set off their own (typically dangerous) fireworks that sound like live fire to the soldier in my house.

I LOVE this mantle. You didn’t even have to mention the fish tank this time! Woot woot!

I didn’t….I think I just googled “Fouth of July printables” and it popped up. They had it in red too. I will try and find it after work if you don’t find it first 🙂

Ohhhhhhh yea, I never even thought about how fireworks are for a soldier that has seen combat. I have always thought what a perfect time to shoot someone! No one would even call the cops!!!! I watch too much crime tv 🙂

Thank you…and yea I think I am finally getting it to where there are SOOOO many blue overcasts and weird shadows and reflections! Hallelujah (oh how the heck do you spell that)

    Found it. Thank you!!

Soldier brain thinks “probably fireworks” but instincts think “holy shit what the hell is that?!?” Also, I’m pretty sure criminals are too dumb to realize that fireworks coverup gunshot noises so hopefully we’re all safe-ish.

Lovely mantle 🙂 Now you just have to enjoy the day off from work!
