I hope you all had weather as pretty as we did here in Missouri.

Tim & I worked until every muscle in our bodies gave out to take advantage of the sunny skies and cool breezes.

I am sore y’all.  I can’t even lift my hand without all my muscles protesting their very existence.  I am going to start working out….tomorrow.  For today I will just bust out the Icy Hot and make our Monday mission an easy one. sixteen Did you know that a burglary occurs every fifteen seconds?  That means in the time it takes you to read all this jibberish, there will have been about 10 robberies.  Over half of those robberies happen during the day.  Don’t mind me I am just sitting at work right now worrying about those statistics.

I personally tend to be a worrier, so doors are locked and alarms are set and dogs are on guard.  So this came as a surprise to yours truly, a whopping 32 percent of robbers just walk in to burglarize you.  Yes, they just jump in your open window or stroll right through that front door you ol’ trusty Rusty.

I know there are a lot of wonderfully fantastic people out there, but there are also plenty of people with their eyes on your flat screen mmmkay.  Just lock up my friends, that’s all I am sayin.

Wait, I lied that’s not all I’m sayin.  Keep yourself safe first, but keep an eye out for your neighbors too.  Look for suspicious activity, maybe even join Neighborhood Watch and put one of those nifty signs in your window.  Talk to your neighbors, bake them cookies, and let them know when you’ll be out-of-town so they can keep their eyes peeled.

Tim & I have been working hard at getting friendly with our neighbors and attempting to bring back that sense of community that we remember from our flashlight tag days of yesteryear.  Although there have been no cookies baked yet.

Have you ever been robbed?  I have…twice!
Have a great sense of community?
Any tips on how to be a better neighbor?

So if you know me well, you know how quickly I get bored with things.

For instance, my parents let me try anything and everything as a kiddo.  I think they were hoping that one day I would become an Olympian in something…anything.  I played the violin, took ice skating lessons, soccer, gymnastics, tennis, piano, cheerleading, debate, volleyball, and the list goes on.  The only thing they refused me on was playing baseball, I still say that could have been my hidden talent but the world will never know because I was not down with softball.  Back to the facts Jack, do you want to take a guess at how many of those things I still do today?  Yup, zero.  None, nada.

Why I thought it would be a great idea to stick with the same graphics for the same project for a whole year is beyond me.  I am not over the project, but I am definitely over the same old graphic week after week.  So meet the new fresh look of Make Mondays Matter…along with this weeks challenge. getyourrideon Did you know only ten percent of workers rideshare?  There are so many advantages to carpooling that it is shocking more people don’t do it.

The obvious reasons are saving gas, preventing wear of you vehicle, and maybe even making a friend.  Carpooling will also lower the amount of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and all those other fancy sciency emissions that your mother warned you about.  Then you can start getting all idealistic and dream of less traffic and no more potholes, as long as we can get everyone on board.

This week I am going to chit chat with our HR department to find out if we have any sort of ride share program set up already, if not I know I can find at least one person living in my neck of the woods.  Then all I have to do is tell them that $2,520 can be saved every year by each person in a 40-mile roundtrip rideshare and then start thinking of ways to spend that money.  If nothing else, maybe I will channel my inner New Yorker and jump on some public transit.

Have you ever carpooled?
Are you lucky enough to walk to work, or even work from home?
Got a crazy bus or train story?  I am all about those.

Man oh man…what a weekend.

We went bowling, had a bonfire, and worked in the yard all weekend long.  I even got a little sunburn on my nose.  I guess I forgot to go all lifeguard with the zinc-blue nose.  Did you do anything fun?

This should be an easy one for everyone…in case your weekend wore you out.  Even those of you that went out riding mechanical bulls can handle this. monday matter We all have those books that are just lying around collecting dust.  If you like to read like us then you probably have tons and tons of them.  You may choose to dress them up, or put them in a gorgeous library, or you may want to clear up some shelf space for your new adventures.  I don’t think this Monday needs much convincing, but just in case. the facts the plan Can you even imagine a life without books?  It is so sad that this is such a reality for so many little ones.  Let’s help them out shall we.

Speaking of books, got anything amazing you’ve been reading?
What was your favorite book as a child?
Have you seen the “book instead of card” trend catching on for showers?

Welcome back Monday…glad to see you again.

We had some crazy weather this weekend and are currently still burrowing our way out of fourteen inches of the best snowman-building-snow you’ve ever seen.  Isn’t snow sometimes so lovely?  Especially when you can stay inside and bundle up with your love.  It is not so lovely when you have to brave the roads, so wish us luck today.

This Monday we didn’t want to do anything too crazy in case you are snowed in like us.  So instead, we are asking you to plan. monday matter Did you know that birthdays are the number one reason people celebrate?  In fact, every single week there are 5,812,037 birthdays and 79,623 births.  Along with weddings, retirements, graduations, bat & bar mitzvahs, funerals, and balls we are a celebrating culture.  So what if for just one celebration you gave your gifts to someone less fortunate? give up your gifts Maybe your birthday has already passed or maybe you are like Tim and say, “but that is the only day that is all about me and there is no way I am giving that up mmmkay”.  Why not host a charity party?  Do I really have to convince you to gather all of your friends and family for a hootin-and-hollerin good time?  Didn’t think so.

There are so many charities near and dear to our hearts, what are your favorites?

My ears are still clogged….can you believe it?

I thought this Monday’s task would be impossible, but since I am still under the weather I am now thinking it might not be so bad.  You ready for this… monday matter I know, I know…it’ll be hard.  If you’re like me then your phone is attached to your hand at all times.  When I forgot my phone at home a couple months ago my whole day seemed off kilter.  I was all “the world needs to see this perfect frozen custard…the girls who are dieting will be so jealous ohhh wait”.  I get it.

But really think about how often our phones are glued to our hands, and how much we are missing.  I wonder about all the beautiful sights that pass me by while I am checking Facebook.  I mean what if P. Diddy is throwing white party invites out and I just walk on by staring at my little screen packed with gossip.  I could be hanging out with the Beibs instead of stalking who Selena is snuggling up to nowadays.

Can you think back to when we were tots and roamed the streets with no way of contacting anyone, those were the days.  Aliens could have abducted us and no one would know until we made it back home for dinner.  Now you can check-in on the spaceship, and show breaking photos, and get their digits while you’re at it.  Holler for the little green guys.

So today, and only today because I may go through severe withdrawals (sad, but true) I am leaving my phone home.  I have plenty of gasoline, and if I do break down I feel like at least one car will have a cell phone that I can borrow after promising I don’t have bird flu.  I wonder how much Tim is going to miss me blowing up his phone with dreams of goldendoodle puppies.

Are you addicted to your cellular?
Can you go a whole day without it?  A whole week?
Will Facebook file a missing persons for me tomorrow?

Make Monday Matter....ten

Who is excited for Monday?
Especially one where we lost an hour of sleep thanks to Daylight Savings Time?
If you answered yes then I envy your ambitious positivity.

For the rest of us, let’s make this Monday extra special.
Maybe show Ma Earth a little lovin. monday matter This has been a hot topic the last few years, and while it seems like everyone already has all their bulbs changed out because they are good people….we did not.  Even though every time we have to replace a bulb, we do use the energy savers, we still had a ton of the relics just waiting to burn out.  In short, we are not be actively green.  We are actually kind of lazy. the lightbulb moment Doesn’t it seem like a small change?  Who knew it made such a big impact. and then Yup, that’s it.

Go spend a couple bucks and actively change those bulbs instead of just waiting until they need replaced.

Tim is not super crazy about this weeks action plan because he says there are high levels of Mercury and these bulbs need special disposal.  If they break you are not supposed to clean them up yourself, you should call your local waste management company.  I figure if they last forever, we only have to worry about it every decade or so.  He still puts up a little fight but then I shoot him down with the world-saving facts.

Where do you fall on the great light bulb debate?
Are they dangerous, or the best thing ever?
