04.17.13

This post was planned for the 15th, until the sickness brought me down.  Thanks for all the well wishes, it made my day a little brighter.  Kind of like Spring.

Spring makes Tim and I so excited, birds start singing and tulips start blooming.  Sure I can’t see anything through my watery eyes and people look at me funny when I can’t stop sneezing but it is all worth it to see new life peeking out of my surroundings.  Every year baby bunnies take up habitat in our back yard, so it would be impossible not to love this season even if I am an Allegra addict for a couple of months.

Allegra didn’t make our favorite things list, check back next month when we are knee-deep in pollen and mold.

I thought I would let my boyfran-man take the lead this time, just like salsa lessons. HIS 1.  Earlier this month Christina brought home a dog-approved birthday cake for our 12-year-old pit bull from Treats Unleashed.  They were enamoured with the cake and then we introduced them to Cheeburger treats.  They will do pretty much anything we ask to get their grubby little paws on those treats.  Two paws way up from this family.

2.  We used to use the pink Gain (look I am a guy, that is all I know) but a couple of weeks ago we picked up a new scent.  Can we help it if we are always drawn to anything with “ocean” “sea” “nautical” or “beach” in the title.  We really lucked out with Gain Ocean Escape, it smells amazing.  Enough said.

3.  I bought this Scott’s Sprayer a few years ago, and I bust it out every spring to spray our whole house for bugs without hand cramps.  As a bonus I also use it to kill all our weeds.  I just mix up my magic potions and spray away and since it is so easy, I am more likely to do it.

4.  I bought Ocean Nutrition’s Formula One Flakes to feed in between our feedings so that our fish don’t starve to death.  I am working on a post to show what goes into just feeding our tank….hint: it is a lot more than flake food.  Our fish seem to like it and I feel good about diversifying their diet.

5.  Christina enters blog giveaways like it is her job, most days she emails me links so I can enter also.  We never win, until Lauren held a giveaway for Monorail Studios.  You should have seen the chair dance when she found out she won, but then she did something totally unexpected.  She gave me her prize.  Expect to see that shirt real soon, she had ulterior motives. hers 1.  My new go-to photo app is AfterLight.  I love how easy it is to edit your photos, add cute filters and frames, and post to dang near all social mediums.  I use it almost everyday so it was worth all 99 pennies.

2.  At the beginning of this year I bought a five year diary.  I love keeping journals, but never have “time” to write in them.  This is so simple, one sentence every night.  I can’t wait until five years down the road when I can look and see what I was doing on April 17th for the last few years.  Sure I can’t get all “dear diary” in there but it is just enough to give the important snipits that I may otherwise forget.

3.  What is Spring without an adorable umbrella.  I always love Vera Bradleys patterns to brighten up a gloomy day.

4.  Lately my cuticles have been putting up a fight, a dry crackly fight.  After a tip from a local beauty queen, I have started putting cuticle oil on every night before bed.  Since you don’t wash your hands and touch “stuff” all day it allows the oil to really soak in and do it’s job.

5.  Be still my heart, have you ever seen a more perfectly charming shoe?  Seriously, I can’t stop staring at the new Kate Spade line of Keds.  I need every single pair, on my feet, at once.

Christina is sick…real sick. Or so she says.

She was excited to be “on time” with our His & Her favorites this month, but then she decided to spend all night in bed. With a fever. Begging me to learn Photoshop and whip up two moodboards. Right.

I’ve been bedside with Sprite and crackers so maybe she won’t be so upset that her post isn’t up on time.

Hopefully this will make her feel better.

It is slightly inappropriate, but it is fully hilarious. You can buy it in shirt form here.
P.S. that website has way too many funny shirts for way cheap.

Send Christina some well wishes so she has something other than soup to be excited about.

So if you know me well, you know how quickly I get bored with things.

For instance, my parents let me try anything and everything as a kiddo.  I think they were hoping that one day I would become an Olympian in something…anything.  I played the violin, took ice skating lessons, soccer, gymnastics, tennis, piano, cheerleading, debate, volleyball, and the list goes on.  The only thing they refused me on was playing baseball, I still say that could have been my hidden talent but the world will never know because I was not down with softball.  Back to the facts Jack, do you want to take a guess at how many of those things I still do today?  Yup, zero.  None, nada.

Why I thought it would be a great idea to stick with the same graphics for the same project for a whole year is beyond me.  I am not over the project, but I am definitely over the same old graphic week after week.  So meet the new fresh look of Make Mondays Matter…along with this weeks challenge. getyourrideon Did you know only ten percent of workers rideshare?  There are so many advantages to carpooling that it is shocking more people don’t do it.

The obvious reasons are saving gas, preventing wear of you vehicle, and maybe even making a friend.  Carpooling will also lower the amount of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and all those other fancy sciency emissions that your mother warned you about.  Then you can start getting all idealistic and dream of less traffic and no more potholes, as long as we can get everyone on board.

This week I am going to chit chat with our HR department to find out if we have any sort of ride share program set up already, if not I know I can find at least one person living in my neck of the woods.  Then all I have to do is tell them that $2,520 can be saved every year by each person in a 40-mile roundtrip rideshare and then start thinking of ways to spend that money.  If nothing else, maybe I will channel my inner New Yorker and jump on some public transit.

Have you ever carpooled?
Are you lucky enough to walk to work, or even work from home?
Got a crazy bus or train story?  I am all about those.

So yesterday, my family and I up and drove to Louisville, KY.

For Christmas I bought them all tickets to see Fleetwood Mac (if you have no clue who they are shame on you for making me feel old).  I fell in love with Louisville when we drove through on our East Coast Road Trip, and it is even better come Derby time.  I am so jealous of all you lucky souls who get to call this city home!

Now we are back on the road and I wanted to share some of my favorite things from this week, besides rocking out and pretending I am a gypsy.

I found this amazing print while scoping out the Etsy scene and knew this was my kind of store, obviously.

Then I was even more enamoured when I found all this goodness.  I introduce Ello Lovey. ello lovely I absolutely love the quirky quotes because they are not your typical “you had me at hello” and “you make me happy”.  The cute fonts and bright colors really did have me at hello though.  You should pop over there because Rhianna is sweet enough to offer all of us 15% off when you use the code:  HOMEMADE.  So go get you some!

I bookmarked a whole lot of awesomeness this week but the funny thing is that most of them were from one or two blogs.  Can I help it if some bloggers have endless creativity?  The answer is no, but I wish I could harness all of that creativity and use it to end world hunger and stuff.  Donate your creativity here please and thank you. design sponge again I love a dang tee shirt.  They are so comfy and give you so much outfit opportunity.  You can dress them up with some layered jewelry and heels or dress it way down with some sweats, what other clothing gives you that kind of options.  The folks at Design Sponge are always impressing me, and by putting a little bit of unexpected on your favorite outfit staple they have gone above and beyond.  This project makes me want to jump into embroidery head first hoop first. design sponge I have recently discovered that my thumb may have a hint of green to it.  That being said I have been eyeing all kinds of flowers, vases, gardens, and pots.  So when I ran across this sweet little flower-pot I couldn’t help but feel happy all over.  Not to mention that copper repels slugs, so it is good for your little greenery!  Don’t mind me, I am moving from gold to copper these days and I may be too excited about it. design mom Anyone who knows me knows I love quotes.  I put them on everything, so when Design Mom prettied up some tea towels with quotes from her favorite TV program my heart may have stopped for a second.  I have a minor tea towel obsession, and I feel like this will be a great project once I grow tired of my current set.  Maybe I’ll even get real classy with some Si Robertson quotes.

What fun did you find this week?
Any fun weekend plans?
Can you guess what show the tea towels are quoting?

We introduced you to Beatrice, our little fairy friend here.  Since then she has made herself quite at home by decorating for the holidays and kicking us into spring cleaning mode.

Lately though, she has been “out of town” an awful lot and I think it may have something to do with our recent renovations. poor bea You see we kind of tore out her secret hideaway to make room for a new shower bench, I know…bad roomates. our new bathroom addition I told her that when she gets back we will have a “move that bus” moment just for her.  Hope we don’t disappoint.

With all this nice weather I’ve been craving the salt in my hair & sand in my toes.
Unfortunately, all I got around these parts is the Muddy Mississippi.

That doesn’t mean I can’t dream of sunshine by the sea and walk around the house in a swimsuit.  Your welcome for that mental image.

I always play it really safe when it comes to swimsuits, especially since the great weight gain also known as college.  Don’t believe me, check it. boring   This year, I am determined to step out of my comfort zone when I take a dip…maybe next year I’ll drop those fifty pounds.  There are so many colorful and fun options, here are some of my favorites. my kind of swim suit 1.  This might be the perfect way for me to spice it up.  The dash of color layered over the sophisticated stripes is the perfect mix of quirky conservative.  Just not sure about the whole “no straps on a busty lady” thang this suit has going on.
2.  Ok, this might be a little more than I can handle this year but you have to assume I am always going to gravitate to anything nautical or sailor-esque.  Wouldn’t you feel like a total pin-up strutting around the pool in this suit.  Flip flops would not be acceptable, only sky high heels.
3.  Can I help it if I love black?  I can’t imagine the tan lines that this suit would leave once the suit hits the floor, but how funky fresh amiright.  It is like spicing up the little black dress, only waterproof.
4.  I am head over heels for this suit.  It just feels like something I would see another girl wearing and think, “oh I love love love her style”.
5.  Seahorses on a swimsuit….need I say more?  If only I could pull off a white-ish suit.
6.  This looks so very flattering and slightly nautical so of course it is a front runner in my books.  I feel like I would be super comfortable in it and isn’t that the best feeling when you are half naked in front of strangers.

Now if you happen to be one of my hot, lean, toned and tanned friends (holler, I am jealous) then check out these cute suits.  Ahhhh maybe next year…time to jump on the elliptical. for you size twos 7.  Oh how I adore all the color this teeny tiny suit packs on.  Does it get any better than stripes and patterns and a top that can fly off with a strong breeze, didn’t think so.
8.  Ummm hello I need you in my life.  This whole swim suit just sings my name in a heavenly tune, it’s like they made it just for me to jump on my sailboat and frolic in.  Can’t be more in love, nope no way.
9.  I know that Emerald is the “it” color and what better way to rock it than in this suit.  The thing I love about solid colored suits is that you can go crazy with accessories.

Have you spotted any stellar swimwear lately?
Would you believe T has more trunks than I have suits?
Any swimsuit workouts I should know about?
